Best Start in Life support from Nesta

Nesta is offering free, tailored coaching and peer mentoring support to all local authorities developing their Best Start in Life local plan. We've partnered with Making Evidence Work, specialists in evidence use within children's services and family support, to deliver expert support that empowers you.

Coaching provides:

  • Expert guidance: Speak to our early years strategy specialists for support with effectively using data and evidence, navigating difficult decisions, and achieving critical multi-agency buy-in.
  • Peer learning: We've advised dozens of LAs on their BSIL plans, so signing up means you can find out what your peers are planning and learn from other local authorities in similar positions.
  • Practical support: Our coaches will work with you to harness real-world evidence, review your plan documents, and facilitate discussions among your LA stakeholders.

Peer group mentoring provides:

  • Enhanced problem-solving: Sharing experiences accelerates solutions to complex, multi-agency challenges.
  • Stronger leadership skills: Reflective practice builds confidence in decision-making, partnership leadership, and strategic planning.
  • Supporting wellbeing: Hearing how others are navigating similar issues and working across systems and boundaries can boost emotional resilience and reduce feelings of isolation.
  • Providing peer accountability: The group dynamic helps participants to stay focused on goals, priority actions, and continuous improvement.
  • A professional network: Relationships built in the sessions often continue informally, supporting ongoing collaboration and shared learning across areas.

Our peer mentoring groups are currently full.

If you're interested in joining a future group, please send us an email at bsil-support@nesta.org.uk to register your interest.
